Mountain Circuit, Isle of Man.
Le Tourist Trophy a été créé en 1907 sur l'Ile de Man pour échapper à la loi limitant la vitesse en Grande-Bretagne.
Le Mountain Circuit, utilisé depuis 1911, est long de 60,723 km. Il serpente à travers l'Ile de Man et va du bord de mer à la montagne. Le départ des courses est donné aux pilotes deux par deux pour les Junior TT (350) et Senior TT (500), le Lightweight TT (250) voit un départ en masse. Donc ici pas de 125 ni de side-cars.
Le circuit: Moutain circuit, Ile de Man.
L' Ile de Man (Isle of Man) est située en Mer d'Irlande, à mi-chemin entre la Grande-Bretagne et l'Irlande. Sa superficie est de 572 km² et sa capitale est Douglas.
Le statut de cette île est un peu particulier. Elle dépend de la Couronne d'Angleterre mais ne fait pas partie du Royaume-Uni.
C'est ce statut qui lui a permis de devenir le théatre de la plus ancienne et la plus importante course de moto de l'histoire car il lui a permis d'échapper à la loi qui limitait la vitesse et donc interdisait les courses sur routes en Grande-Bretagne.
Le premier Tourist Trophy a lieu le 28 mai sur 10 tours du circuit de St Johns long de 25,4 km.
En 1911, le circuit de St Johns est abandonné au profit du Mountain Circuit, long de 60,723 km et qui relie Douglas à Ramsey en passant par les hauteurs de l'ïle.
Le Mountain Circuit accueille encore le TT de nos jours.
C'est malheureusement le circuit le plus meurtrier de l'histoire des sports mécaniques.

Soixante quatorze coureurs terminèrent l'épreuve. 43 d'entre eux se sont qualifiés pour une réplique de première classe (réduction en argent du trophée), 26 ont obtenu une réplique de deuxième classe en bronze.
Les machines des trois premiers, démontées, s'avérèrent en excellente condition, surtout la Norton d'Arthur "Artie" Bell qui ne présentait qu'un calaminage vraiment minimum.
□ Ce 13 juin, ils sont 99 au départ du Junior TT, première course de l'Histoire comptant pour le championnat du Monde. Hormis les Britanniques et assimilés (Irlandais du Sud et du Nord ou citoyens de pays du Commonwealth), le seul continental est le vétéran danois Svend-Aage SORENSEN.
Malheureusement, dès cette première course, le championnat du Monde connait sa première tragédie avec l'accident mortel de Ben DRINKWATER (Norton) lors du Junior TT.

□ Dans le Senior TT, le vétéran londonien Harold DANIELL renouvelle sa victoire de 1938.
En panne de magnéto à la fin du dernier tour, Robert Leslie GRAHAM poussera sa machine jusqu'à l'arrivée. Classé ainsi en dixième place, il empochera le point du record du tour alors que Bob FOSTER avait signé le véritable meilleur tour avant de casser.
Le seul continental de cette course était l'Espagnol Javier De ORTUETA.
La course "Clubman Senior" réservée aux pilotes nationaux, sera remportée par un jeune pilote de 26 ans nommé Geoffrey DUKE.

Soixante quatorze coureurs terminèrent l'épreuve. 43 d'entre eux se sont qualifiés pour une réplique de première classe (réduction en argent du trophée), 26 ont obtenu une réplique de deuxième classe en bronze.
Les machines des trois premiers, démontées, s'avérèrent en excellente condition, surtout la Norton d'Arthur "Artie" Bell qui ne présentait qu'un calaminage vraiment minimum.
□ Ce 13 juin, ils sont 99 au départ du Junior TT, première course de l'Histoire comptant pour le championnat du Monde. Hormis les Britanniques et assimilés (Irlandais du Sud et du Nord ou citoyens de pays du Commonwealth), le seul continental est le vétéran danois Svend-Aage SORENSEN.
Malheureusement, dès cette première course, le championnat du Monde connait sa première tragédie avec l'accident mortel de Ben DRINKWATER (Norton) lors du Junior TT.

□ Dans le Senior TT, le vétéran londonien Harold DANIELL renouvelle sa victoire de 1938.
En panne de magnéto à la fin du dernier tour, Robert Leslie GRAHAM poussera sa machine jusqu'à l'arrivée. Classé ainsi en dixième place, il empochera le point du record du tour alors que Bob FOSTER avait signé le véritable meilleur tour avant de casser.
Le seul continental de cette course était l'Espagnol Javier De ORTUETA.
La course "Clubman Senior" réservée aux pilotes nationaux, sera remportée par un jeune pilote de 26 ans nommé Geoffrey DUKE.
